Tracking Engagement from Specific Workflows: A Step-by-Step Guide
Today, I want to share a strategy that will elevate how you monitor engagement within your campaigns. We'll dive into not only tracking overall engagement but specifically pinpointing which campaigns your audience is engaging with most.
Understanding Engagement Scoring
We begin with understanding engagement scoring. By accessing settings and managing scoring, you can assign an engagement score to contacts, for example, adding a point when an email is opened. But what if you want to do more than just tally total engagement? Let's say your goal is to create a score for interactions within a specific campaign and even add a note to their profile when they open or click an email within that campaign.
Creating Custom Fields
The first step in this advanced strategy is creating a custom field. Head over to your settings, navigate to custom fields, and add a field. Since our focus is tracking actions, this field should be a number field – adding a value each time the action is performed. For instance, label it as "Opened Email in ABC Campaign" and save it under the appropriate group like additional info for easy access.
Building Workflows
Next, we build the workflows. Navigate to automations, then workflows, and create a new workflow for the ABC campaign. Though our trigger will remain blank in this setting, noting that it could start with various actions like a form submission or a tag. The email to be tracked is the next important setup. Your campaign can be as simple or elaborate as you like, but ensure that opening any email in this campaign triggers the workflow.
Trigger Specific Events with Precision
To track campaign engagement accurately, we need to define specific triggers. Select "email events" as your trigger, but be mindful to specify the type, such as an email open event. This choice ensures our workflow only triggers for the ABC campaign. Once set, remember to save your progress.
Automating with Math Operations
After notes are added to the contact’s profile, use a math operation to modify the existing number in your custom field. Choose to add, subtract, multiply, or divide – typically, you’d add one per action completed, updating the field each time.
Testing Your Workflow
Testing is crucial. Run a test by sending an email, then check enrollment history to confirm actions like email opening have triggered the automation. Look into both enrollment history and execution path to ensure each step executed as planned.
Checking and Analyzing Results
Once the workflows are in motion, go to the profile to check updates. The additional info section should reflect the engagement score, and you'll find your notes under the notes section. This clarity aids the sales process, allowing precise discussions about engagement with your customers.
